Stages of PhD Failure and Grief
Always try to find successful people to work with, sometimes you can be a success to your boos and supervisours
In life hard circumstances are your way to success, how much hard the circumstances are hard on you, but what you will find out that they will model you into a stronger character with a bright future:
Good has created humans with hope, once hope is there dreams are there, this drives you in life, once you understand how life is and how it works every thing becomes simple and easy:
You need to learn to let go. Thats done through several steps, 1- is to get away from the source of negativity, that gives you space to think and make decisions, the recovery period takes from 7 to 8 months. 2- Not talking with people about it, except close friends who support you. 3- Setting your self new goals. 4- Summarize the causes of the problem and extract the lessons.
Why is it difficult to forget? Because some times in life we are exposed to difficult circumstances, which saturated in so much negativity and low self e stem that your emotions where more stronger in holding you back than making the right decision:
To know your position in life ask your self are you living in the past or are you anxious or a re you living in peace. This will help you to revise your stratagies in life and set new targets and goals:
Backup Plans
Before starting a PhD always have a back up plan, there is a saying never put all you eggs in one basket. Having a backup plan will always give you more space to maneuver and you will always feel much confident and comfortable in taking decisions through your PhD.
Take What has happened to you as a Lesson
Bad circumstances that we go through make us stronger and better:
Stages of Failure and Grief
This something you would encounter if you didn’t get your viva expected outcome.
1. Denial and Isolation.
The first reaction to learning of the viva outcome is to deny the reality of the situation. It is a normal reaction to rationalize overwhelming emotions. It is a defense mechanism that buffers the immediate shock. We block out the words and hide from the facts. This is a temporary response that carries us through the first wave of pain.

- If only we had more time for the project…
- If only we got a second opinion from another supervisor…
- If only we had other examiners…
- If we only had more money for the project....
- If we only had more scientific assistance for the project........
4.Depression.
5. Acceptance.
The following statement by Nikola Tesla has lots of meaning telling you to keep trying till you get to your goal and to neglect all the obstacles you are encountering.

There are lots of people out their who are very bright but did not get PhD, it was only that the circumstances they where put through did not allow them to get to their objective, I am talking about the people who did take PhD seriously from the beginning and where studying throughout, while others did deserve because it wasn't an objective for them, they where enjoying there time having fun and.

Negligent Supervisors and Departments
This a problem that many students
encounter is that the
department and supervisor are not on good terms this causes the student to get
stuck in between departmental politics causing the students career to be put in
steak.
At this point all the rules have to be applied to the student and the work has to be put in a perfect form with the same occurring circumstances of no provided resources and no academic help.
When double standards occur the supervisor doesn’t do any work and the department doesn’t monitor him and the student goes through the game of playing around with words and misinterpreting what the student says and always requests non relevant issues.
1- You will end up with people who just want to get rid of you.
2- They will use you to fight their inner departmental conflicts and then when they start getting exposed they will merge together and get you out of the department.
3- You will end up going from one meeting to another, with it they will tell you its confidential what you say then you will find everyone knows about your problem.

4- During meetings they pretend that don’t know about your problem, then with the progression of the conversation you find out he has a great deal of knowledge about your case.
The examiners when they write something against the student can be of harm when based on bad intentions.
Transferring to Another University
How to know that I have to transfer or not just ask your self the following question. Do I have the wining cards in my hands for the game. If not leave and find some where the game is fair. Card games are a good example. If all the strong cards are kept with one person then you can never win how much you try so why waste your time in an unfair game. This is something that also happens when the cards are not mixed properly in the game which very much represents a game of negligence.
At some point you will need to move on. You will figure out its not worth the effort anymore because unfortunately you ended up with the wrong people. What usually holds you back is the pain. The pain for your case is the negative memories that have accumulated in you head for a number of years. I find this picture very much explanatory.
You will need to let go and get out of the trap you have fallen into. Find another place that you can accomplish your goals. Not getting to your goal at one university is not the end of the world you can find other places to achieve your goals.
The best thing about knowledge is you can increase it when ever you allocate for it some time in your life. You can continue in pursuing your objective at another place.
Anything that dosent make you happy in work then this means that you will need to find something else to achieve your goals
In the UK you can transfer to another university if your not happy with the vivas outcome.
These notes are for students who transfer from another UK university (with or without their supervisor) before an offer of a place is made:
1- All applicants must fill and submit an application form (in order for a student record to be created).
2- Applicants must be interviewed (This action is based on the condition that the supervisor is not transferring with the student).
3- Confirmation that the student has enough registration time left to complete the project.
4- A full supervisory team must be identified (So that technical and expertise input should be added for the project to get its goal).
5- Funding for consumables in the school/center must be confirmed (So that the problem of resources will not occur at later stages of the project).
6- Governance should also be checked, in particular insurance and data protection (Some times the project is funded by an institution that requires the work to stay confidential).
7- The admission must be confirmed by the Research Degree Tutor and Head of School ( Because they can confirm the availability of resources and expertise).
What Documents will the University you are Transferring to Require
It is good the get all the required documents from the students records in preparation for the process. The Graduate Research School Office should obtain a letter of release from the Registrar (or other appropriate senior official) at the other university to confirm:
1- The student has successfully registered at the other institution.
2- The award for which the student was registered, meaning was it PhD or MPhil or Matsers.
3- The effective date of registration at the other institution.
3- The study mode either part time or full time.
4- The title of the dissertation project.
5- The date of PhD registration.
6- Any period of suspension and/or extension to registration.
7- No debts are outstanding to the other institution due to that departments pay money in order to support the technical facilities and support staff.
This information will be used as part of the consideration for admission and for the determination of the lapse date for registration.
