Thesis Rational and Finding the Gap
A rationale is a statement that justifies your reasons for a particular proposal of research. Whether you are an researcher seeking to justify the costs of getting a technology idea off the ground to investors or an educator who needs to justify the value of attending a professional conference or workshop to administrators, your rationale should be brief yet also adequately descriptive to summarize your intended activity, it merits, and potential challenges and outcomes.
Your rationale should begin by summarizing the main activity proposed followed by an explanation of why this proposal is merited. You should write this brief outline of your proposal and its benefits assuming that the reader might not be familiar with the approach or activity. For example: "Any engineering student graduating from our BSc program should be required to participate in an internship experience at an automotive company. Such a placement will reinforce automotive concepts, contribute to long-term professional development, and develop our institution’s ties to local manufacturing institutes." A longer rationale could then include a discussion of potential challenges or pitfalls to your proposal’s implementation; however, in this case you should conclude by restating your proposal’s importance and advantages.
The Difference between Thesis Aims and Thesis Objectives
This is something that the student needs to get full understood in order to write the introductory chapter of his thesis. The difference between an aim and an objective is that an aim is a general statements that identifies the target of a program while an objective is a more specific target set in order to achieve the goal. In other words if you are conducting and experiment one of the aims is to measure temperature, pressure and other parameters while objective is to measure the acting force on a body. The main difference however lies in terms of specification where an objective is specific while an aim is general. Therefore what can be said is that the objective is priority number one while aims come secondary. In conclusion, an aim is the goal set while an objective is the measurement that is undertaken in order to achieve an aim.
