His office door is always open, you can always ask him at any time, he is respectful, tries to help you out when you face problems and even supports you financially and offers you a postdoc after your viva. He will write you good references and will be generous in providing you with all what you require for your research from books, to study room, to computer, experimental data, research links...... etc.
Not Easy to Work With
He is usually overworked, you will need to arrange a meeting with him before you see him. Even when you see him you can only meet him for several minutes. He will spend a large portion of the meeting talking about none relevant issues.
Impossible to Work With
He is not polite, he wants work for his own benefit only, he is always busy and never has time for his students. His meeting are always chats that are none relevant to the project and are just a waste of time for the student. He says he care about you at certain instances but from his action you can see he dose not want you to progress and he just wants you to pay the university fees. He will never mention anything that is useful to the progress of the student to the least extent. These types of academics are dangerous and the student needs to change university or supervisor immediately because no way can the student get PhD except if his character and ethical back ground is the same as his boss.
At some stage they will be very nice with you to get what they want, once it is obtained he wont give you time for any meetings

Summary
After covering the three types of academics you will start to understand and can foresee the outcome of your project/PhD. You will start seeing academics that pretend to know every thing and talk none-sense to impress people and due to that they work on something not all the general public know about it will be difficult for people to uncover their mask.
These academics will try to project an image of them selves between fellow academics in the department that they are doing outstanding work and try to enforce respect on others based on his academic statues. While close people who work with him find out that this character has nothing to give and he manipulates different researchers to put together research that will be part of a project that others have no knowledge about.
You will see that these characters do work which is super natural for an individual to do on his own. They get help from other people in academia based on exchange of favors. You will find them publishing at very high ranking journals and are very well connected.
